On November 8, 2018, the Paradise, California fire erupted and destroyed over 18,000 structures. After burning for more than two weeks, the fire was finally 100 percent contained on November 25. Ultimately, the Camp Fire became the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California to date. The damage totaled $16.5 billion.
Although the Paradise California fire decimated the town of 27,000 people, disaster relief is under way. Power Plus is a part of the recovery effort, providing electrical power for the camps that are housing the 3,000+ workers performing the first phase of rebuilding – the cleanup.
The Beckman Coulter Biomedical facility in Southern California was in need of a temporary back-up power solution to insure a zero chance of any power interruption. The cost of a power outage would result in the potential loss of $1 million or more. On the 100+ acre campus were numerous buildings that needed to have generators installed. Power Plus came through with a multi-generator solution, laid out all the necessary cable and performed all the electrical connections to the Automatic Transfer Switches and main electrical panels. For several months, Power Plus equipment kept Beckman Coulter safe from any power outage.
In Northern California, the Calaveras Dam Retrofit project began with the installation of a construction trailer compound consisting of 20 trailers. While Power Plus worked to install a 12 kilovolt utility line extension, we installed an 800kW portable generator to temporarily supply power to the trailers. We performed all the connections including installing all the conduit on the trailers and undergrounding the feeders back to the generator.
